L'Alezan 'Suspens' 2022

A blend of equal parts Marsanne & Roussane from a steep single-hectare parcel just a stone's throw from Sainte-Épine. As such, this wine displays the qualities you might find in great white Saint-Joseph and the vines – planted by Patricia & Remi in 2015 – grow over the same sandy granite soils, with the additional presence of loess, which helps steer the wine towards being ready to drink in its youth.

It’s a powerful, textured white wine with a robust, chiselled structure, the ripe, curvy stone fruits and anise spices balanced with a distinct mineral clarity. A unique, terroir-driven wine from the fringes of an iconic region, produced in tiny quantities and built to go the distance.

The grapes were harvested together and directly pressed into tank to start fermentation. After being racked off the gros lees it was moved to amphora where it rested for one year, then was bottled in 2023 with no additions. Drinking very well now, with superb ageing potential.
