Malas Uvas 2023
A textured, ripe fruited blend of Palomino and Doña Blanca from a single parcel of ancient, low-yielding vines in Valdeorras, in the heart of Galicia. Rich, ripe stone fruits are met with notes of ginger, sage, walnuts and wildflowers. Beautifully textured and multi-layered, showing a muscular structure that's perfectly balanced with a a lick of acidity and underlying salinity.
Made with a blend of 80% Palomino and 20% Doña Blanca, the grapes are hand-harvested and then de-stemmed by hand, before macerating gently for 5 days in 400L tinaja before aging in the same vessel for 6 months.
âMalas Uvasâ translating to âBad Grapesâ is so named due appellation rules which do not allow the use of Palomino grapes, despite their rich history in the region. In the words of Nacho âAnything other than Godello was frowned upon, and they recommended uprooting it and replacing it with varieties they considered native. That's why the name could only be Malas Uvas.â
