Crucella 2023 MAGNUM

Crucella 2023 MAGNUM

Magnum bottling. A balance of old-school rusticity with a dose of juicy, supple cherry fruit and gently lifted aromas of rose. It's a wine with no shortage of charm and is a world away from the more heavily tannic reds associated with this part of Italy. The perfume comes from theĀ highly fragrantĀ Camaiola grape, that on its own makes the vibrantĀ Baciami Ancora. The rest is an even split of Sangiovese & Merlot.Ā

Reflecting the challenges of a cooler, wet ripening season, the grapes were harvested much later into September of 2023 than is typical here. This has resulted in a darker, more concentrated expression that previous vintages, with bolder tannic structure and higher finished alcohol. For us, it lands the finished article somewhere between his usual super-lightweight style and more classical Campania.

The Sangiovese and Merlot are planted at 350 metres altitude over rocky limestone and clay, with the Camaiola coming from a lower plot at 200m more dense with clay. Co-fermented, they were macerated as whole bunches for 9 days before being pressed off toĀ steel tanks to rest until the spring, before bottling with no additions.
